News : Simpsons Launches Twin Pot Sponges

Ready to eat food specialist, Simpsons is embarking on its biggest ever new product development programme.

The company, which celebrates its centenary in 2010, will be using the NPD drive to develop a range of Simpsons-branded products over the next 12 months, in different categories.

The programme begins with the launch of a new desserts range, Simpsons Pot Sponges (130g). The sponges are available in a twin-pack sponge or sponge and custard format.

The range comprises Strawberry Jam, Spotted Dick, Sticky Toffee, Chocolate and Syrup variants and listings have already been secured in several major multiples, including Asda and Morrisons.

The puddings can be microwaved in 35-45 seconds and have RRPs of £1.29 per twin-pack.

Bryan Cooke, Simpsons’ Commercial Director, comments: “The centenary is an ideal opportunity to embark on our biggest ever programme of Simpsons-branded product launches across a wide range of categories.

“We’ve produced a number of sponge-based desserts and other products for well known UK brands and major multiples over the years and have identified a sizeable market opportunity to broaden the Simpsons product range.”

Simpsons will be supporting the sponges with a national sampling, PR and advertising campaign across women’s interest and food titles.
